Iron Lady 12A

Love her or loathe her, Margaret Thatcher left her mark on British society which is still seen today. This film, directed by Phyllida Lloyd of Mamma Mia! fame, sees her coaxing a colossal Oscar-winning performance from Meryl Streep, who portrays the Iron Lady both in her pomp and in her dotage. We see her as a confused 80 year old, looking back over her life, from her upbringing as a grocer's daughter in Grantham, through the Falklands, the miners' strike and her ultimate removal by her own Conservative Party colleagues. Jim Broadbent supports as husband Denis, while Alexandra Roach potrays the young Margaret as a gauche, aggressive provincial young woman.
